Feminism can be divided into 3 or 4 waves, depending on who you ask. The first wave, from 1848 to 1920, was devoted to achieving political equality for women. It is important to note that the first wave of feminism does not necessarily mean that it was the origin of feminist thought. Women have been fighting for hundreds of years, if not longer, to improve their lives. However, the first wave led to the first significant coordinated efforts to realize political rights such as the right to vote and women`s representation. In Poland, Amnesty International and more than 200 women`s and human rights organizations from around the world signed a joint statement protesting against the Stop Abortion law. While there is no single ideological position that unites all feminists, most would accept that women`s subordination to men is the result of socio-economic factors, not the effect of biological determinism. Therefore, there is a widespread belief that major social changes, culminating in women`s liberation, are possible. At present, feminism remains a dynamic and visible social movement, particularly successful in the field of cultural creativity, despite media references to the post-feminist era, the persistent social inequality of women and its elimination remains at the heart of feminism in all its forms. According to the United Nations, “gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls are not only a goal in themselves, but a key to sustainable development, economic growth, peace and security.” Research has shown that this is the case – society becomes better for everyone when women`s rights are respected and taken seriously. A frequently asked question is: is feminism or women`s rights activism still relevant today? The simple answer is yes. There is still a long way to go. A common misconception is that with the progress made by feminist movements to achieve the right to work, the right to choose what to wear, who to love and how to live, there is no longer any need for feminism. However, it is enough to open a social media platform or watch the news to know that women still face discrimination and harassment. They are always linked to social limitations and limited by negative perceptions.
In Kyrgyzstan, Aigul Alybaeva is doing her part to promote women`s rights and gender equality by supporting her daughter`s participation in a school curriculum that empowers girls, encourages intergenerational dialogue and changes attitudes towards child marriage. Aigul`s daughter, Aiturgan Djoldoshbekova, has learned about women`s legal rights in her country and wants to pursue a career as a lawyer. She also knows how important it is to share her knowledge with others. Elizabeth Cady Stanton was one of the first leaders of the women`s rights movement and wrote the Declaration of Feelings as a call to arms for women`s equality. What do we mean when we talk about women`s rights? What are we fighting for? Here are some examples of the rights activists have fought for over the centuries and today: On the first International Women`s Day in 1911, more than a million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland mobilized for women`s suffrage and labour rights. But before we go any further, it`s important to note that most women`s rights movements are about needs, wants, and choices. Women need to feel safe. Women must be respected. Women should be able to choose what to wear, where to work and what to do with their bodies. This list is endless, but it starts at home.
You don`t have to be an activist or a political figure to make a difference. While this article aims to pay tribute to some of the most prominent members of the various movements, any woman (named or not) who has had a positive impact on the lives of other women deserves inspiration, respect, and even imitation. Maybe the next step is to take a step back. A common theme among the most prominent women leaders and women`s rights activists is that success has never come without adversity. They never gave up. They never stopped fighting for their rights. They never stopped fighting for our rights. We should take a moment to take the time to acknowledge their struggles and be grateful for the role they have played in shaping the world as we know it – making life easier for women and even men today. She has found global reach and advocates for social and gender issues, especially for women in less developed regions of the world. However, his voice also resonates with Western activists. Her experience sends a message to Western feminists that the struggle is far from over.
True equality cannot be achieved unless it is achieved on a global scale. As long as women are marginalized everywhere, the fight for gender equality should continue. Because of her experience, effort and dedication, she became the youngest Nobel laureate in history when she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014. Ayah participated in a training with the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights, supported by a joint programme of UN Women and UNDP, to advocate for women`s rights before the Sharia Court, which deals with family issues codified in the Personal Status Law on marriage, divorce, custody and inheritance. After her training, Ayah decided to stay at the centre to continue working with survivors of violence. We also ran a successful campaign in Ireland and Northern Ireland, where abortion was recently decriminalized after many decades of lobbying by Amnesty International and other human rights groups. The first major meeting of the United States devoted to the discussion and promotion of women`s rights was held in Seneca Falls, New York, in July 1848. It is known as the Seneca Falls Convention. Including lead organizers Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Quaker abolitionist Lucretia Mott, about 100 people attended the convention. A few men also attended the meeting.

Stanton drafted the “Declaration of Feelings, Complaints, and Resolutions,” which included the right to vote, which is often considered the beginning of the women`s suffrage movement. However, her most influential work, The Second Sex, written in 1949, had a global impact and helped formulate ideas about modern feminism. In her book, she openly criticizes patriarchy and disagrees with the idea that women should only play a passive role in society. The book was unsuccessfully banned by the Vatican. Instead, she started the conversation about the problems of feminism and how to move forward in ways that improve women`s lives. She fought for individual freedoms such as the right to abortion and played an important role in the global movement for women`s empowerment.
